In Petaluma’s fierce crosstown rivalry, both the Petaluma Trojans and the Casa Grande Gauchos traded points until the Trojans took a hard Egg Bowl defeat in their 28-29 loss.
Casa touchdowns were quickly answered by the Trojans, though the half ended with Casa leading 21-14.
Starting off the second half with vigor, fullbacks Ed Bernich and Chase Miller, juniors, rushed for a combined 69 yards. A touchdown from quarterback Henry Ellis, senior, and PAT from kicker Asher Levy, junior, tied the score at 21.
The Trojans led 28-21 going into the fourth quarter until Casa managed a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the last two minutes to win the game.
Overall, Petaluma had 340 total yards, 297 rushing and 43 passing. On the other side of the field, Casa had 286 yards with only 18 rushing and 268 passing.
Senior wide receiver Dawson Shaw had 28 total receiving yards and 2 catches for the game. “I knew it was going to be a dog fight walking onto the field,” said Shaw, and he was proud that “We always kept our heads high during the game.”
