Cross Country Runs Miles Around the Competition

The cross country team recently concluded their season, consistently placing in the top three on the leaderboard at meets. Led by a strong group of seniors, the team also has a handful of underclassmen ready to lead the team next year.

In the three mile VVAL meets, at American Canyon on Sept. 28 and at Casa Grande on Oct. 12, the boys team placed third; seniors Javi Gutierrez and Aidan Hicks placed in the top ten in both. Gutierrez, one of the consistent top performers for the boys, placed third in both VVAL meets.

For the girls, junior Reilly Kreutz has been a standout runner for the Trojans. She placed first in both VVAL meets and established a course record at American Canyon with a time of 19:49.

Kate Doherty, sophomore, has also been a top competitor, placing third and fourth in league meets.

Coming up on the last league meet for the year means it will be the final race for some seniors. Senior runners will be missed for the leadership that they contribute to the team. “This entire group of seniors have been great leaders in helping motivate the members of the team,” said Coach John Tallent. “Their energy has helped our freshman, sophomores and juniors learn what it is to be a Trojan runner.”
