Stockhome

Among the community of family-owned restaurants in Petaluma, there is a fresh and thriving Scandinavian eatery called Stockhome in Ddowntown Petaluma. Named as a play on after the capital of Sweden, Stockholm, this restaurant serves Swedish street food dishes in a charming and elegant manner. 

The owners, Andrea and Roberth Sundell, parents of Petaluma High senior Ashton Sundell, are passionate about spreading knowledge of their Swedish culture. They spread this knowledge through Stockhome as well as their original restaurant, Plaj (pronounced “play”), which is located in San Francisco. Their oldest son, Ashton, differentiates the two, saying  “Plaj is more of a fine dining rather than counter food.” The family of six is able to show a more laid back version of their cuisine in their home of Petaluma at Stockhome, making it more accessible to those who are not able to experience the white tablecloth luxuriance of Plaj. Ashton Sundell believes that Stockhome, “bBrings a lot to Petaluma by bringing Swedish culture and by having so many Scandinavians come to this restaurant.” He continueds, “You get to meet so many new people and people get to learn [about] what others eat and what people [live] on in other countries.” 

Since it is located in Ddowntown Petaluma, Stockhome is easily accessible and within walking distance of many Petalumans living on the west-side of town. Their most popular dish, Sundell says, areis the Kabob Plates which are a sole symbol of the idea of Swedish street food. Stockhome undoubtedly has become a key puzzle piece in the local restaurant culture. This restaurant has successfully brought a delicious new food culture of food to this town.
